Achilles
Achilles is a 4 yr. old Doberman. His proud parents are Linda and Hal Paul. Aunt Cindy had the Paul’s pet sit for her Doberman Savior and when they did, Linda and Hal discovered how loveable a Doberman can be so they were quickly “hooked.” By chance, a girl contacted Aunt Cindy about a Doberman that she needed to find a home for because Achilles’ dad went to Iraq and couldn’t keep him. Cindy talked to Linda and Hal about Achilles and took him to their home so they could meet. They fell in love and the rest is history.

Achilles became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on December 17, 2007. He spends every day with us. Achilles knows when it is time to go to school because when the Jeep, better known as the “Achilles-mobile” comes out in the morning, Achilles knows it’s HIS ride and he’s going to school. Achilles is the ONLY dog that has his own office here, which is known to the rest of us as the time-out area, but HE thinks it’s ‘HIS’ office. HE supervises his best buddies, Chase Zellner and Bailey Baker, both yellow labs in ‘HIS’ office, one on one time. Being that I am a long time employee, I DON’T even have my own office, so if one day Achilles gets his own reserved parking space, I am sooo out of here!
Linda and Hal told us a story about the time Achilles got loose and ran away. He headed for Donnell School; Hal saw him and started walking that way. Achilles saw Hal after him. There was a man parked along the curb with his car window down talking to a couple sitting on their front porch. Achilles jumped through the window into the parked car and sat in the passenger seat and looked at the guy sitting in his car like “Floor it man, my dad’s comin’!” The man in the car NEVER saw Achilles before. Can you imagine the look on that man’s face! WOOW!! Just when Hal got about up to the car, Achilles jumps back out of the car window and ran up on the porch where the couple were sitting and they held Achilles until Hal got there.

Achilles has a daily ritual that he does every day after school. Hal parks the Jeep and lets Achilles out. He takes off running 200 mph and circles the house 2 times. By the time Hal gets to the door, he has completed his 2 laps and is waiting patiently at the door. Achilles has also elected himself to the position of ‘South End Block Watch President.’ He thinks HE owns the neighborhood. NOBODY, man nor beast, gets past him without the WHOLE neighborhood being notified. Squirrels are his BIGGEST frustration! After a long, hard day at school and his “Prez” position, he likes to relax and sleep snuggled up in bed with his Hal. Sweet dreams.

We always enjoy Achilles’ arrival at day care and Hal’s smiling face with his favorite greeting of “it’s another beautiful sunshiny day.” We love Uncle Hal, he makes our day and We Love Achilles. You have left your paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why you are the “Dog of the Month” for October.
Achilles says: Join us if you dare for a Howl-aween scare … spend your day at Howl-a-Day Inn Doggie Day Care.
