Huey

Huey is a 3 yr. old Chihuahua. His proud parent is Marge Mize. Huey is a Michigan dog – Go Blue!! Huey was an 06’ Christmas gift from Marge’s youngest daughter. He was barely 6 weeks old and not even a pound! He was the last of his litter. The breeder told her no one seemed to want a puppy with a cooked front leg and barely fuzz for hair. :D He was to be taken to a shelter before long because the breeder didn’t want him. Poor Huey!

Christmas evening when Marge and her husband, Johnny, were getting ready for bed he said to her “what are we going to do with THAT?!” Marge said they were just going to love it and that they have. Christmas day as Johnny drove them home, Marge sat transfixed watching this little guy wrapped in a way-too-big blanket sleeping. Marge couldn’t get over how such a tiny creature could live and breathe and make noises. Johnny said she looked like a new mother bringing her baby home.

Her husband was scheduled to go to Tennessee the next week but stayed North an extra week to take care of baby Huey while Marge went to work. It was their neighbor who finally came up with the name Huey. She said he reminded her of Donald Duck and his three nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Huey was always the leader, getting Dewey and Louie in trouble. The name just seemed to fit their little guy. I would have to agree, he is DEFINITELY a ‘Huey.’

Huey became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on July 3, 2008. Huey comes to visit us once or twice a week and brings along his brothers. Sweet and adorable. They are never far apart and ALWAYS look out for each other. Brothers and BEST buds! Huey has no problem putting the ‘Big Guys’ in their place. ‘Small but mighty.’

Anyone that knows Huey knows he is definitely an Alpha dog. Marge says when Huey was 6 months old, her husband bought a stroller at a garage sale. Marge put a sign on the front of the ‘Hueymobile.’ They would walk around their community pushing Huey in his ‘Hueymobile.’ Huey would stand up with his front paws on the front seat bar, like a ship’s captain at the helm and survey the land. He would bark at anyone he saw and our neighbors seemed to enjoy seeing him and would wave at him.

Marge says Huey’s favorite toy is one certain kind stuffed toy and it HAS to be BLUE! She has bought the same toy in other colors but they sit in his toy box because it HAS to be BLUE! When they go to bed at night, he has to take his ‘baby’ with him. Because Huey is small, he has to climb stairs into bed. He drops his ‘baby’ at the foot of the stairs so Marge can pick it up and give it to him. For all of Huey’s BIG BAD Alpha, he is still her little guy.

Huey is small in stature but has a BIG place in our hearts. We all love to cuddle and hug him and he gives the best sloppy kisses. Huey has left his tiny paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why he is our ‘Dog of the Month’ for May. We love you Huey and Mikey too.

Huey wishes ALL the mom’s a Happy Mother’s Day! Arf-arf! I LOVE YOU, MOM!
