Marley

Marley is a two year old Golden Retriever. His proud parents are Jared and Jenelle Hohman. We first met the Hohman’s when they brought their black Labrador Retriever named Gunner to day care. Unfortunately, Gunner got sick and passed away in May of 2006.

Jared wasn’t really ready for another dog after Gunner died, but Jenelle missed having a dog. Jenelle was walking in the mall and passed the pet store and saw these adorable Golden puppies. It was love at first sight! She called Jared and of course he said NO, but they went to the mall after Jared got home from work and the rest is history … Hello Marley!



The Hohman’s had a hard time deciding on the perfect name for their Golden puppy. Marley’s name was actually Baxter for a week. The Hohman’s like to go boating and listening to island music, so it was decided that his name would be Marley after Bob Marley the musician. It just seemed to fit. I would have to agree, he definitely doesn’t look like a Baxter.

Marley became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on August 7, 2006. He usually spends one or two days a week with us. We love Marley. He’s a very sweet and lovable guy. He has a lot of energy and comes in ready to play. He has many furry friends but his best friends are all girls and all Golden Retrievers: Bella, Sage, and Maggie C.



Of course Marley is in BIG trouble when all “his” girls show up on the same day. After the girls have totally exhausted him, he likes to cuddle with his BIG friend, Doogie, our lovable Saint Bernard for an afternoon nap. Sometimes it gets pretty crazy in here when there are thirty to forty dogs and puppies running, playing, and barking and then in the middle of everything you look and see Marley laying on his back, all spread out and a smile on his face. I’m sure he is thinking “Life is good.” Marley just brings a smile to your face.

The Hohman’s tell us that Marley’s favorite game is hide and seek but beware when he finds you. Marley will nip you in the butt! He loves to go boating and swim in Lake Erie. He always wants to play and as soon as he sees you, he will bring you a toy. Marley always has to have something in his mouth. His favorite things to carry around are socks?! A grand total of five socks have been pulled out of his mouth at one time! His new fetish is baby socks.



Marley is especially sweet and gentle with baby brother, the Hohman’s son, Maguire. It is certain that Marley and Maguire will grow to be best friends. Every little boy should have a best friend like Marley. He puts a smile on your face and you can’t help but love him! The Hohman’s are so thankful that Marley is part of their family and we are so thankful the Hohman’s are part of OUR family. We love you Marley and you have left your paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why you are our “Dog of the Month” for May.
