Gunner
Gunner is a 9 ½ year old black Labrador Retriever. His proud parents are Jared and Jenelle Hohman. Gunner became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on November 2, 2005. Gunner spends three to four days a week with us.
When Gunner first joined us at day care, he was having problems with separation anxiety and was even on medication for it. He would sit at the gated fence and bark continuously. Within a couple of weeks of joining us almost daily, we saw such an improvement. He started playing with tennis balls, one of his favorite things and making a lot of new furry friends. We saw Gunner’s spirit come back and he got his wings as we refer to it. He was even able to go off of his medication.
We are so proud of the progress he has made. We have all fell in love with Gunner and always enjoy the days he spends with us. He looks at you with those big puppy dog eyes and it almost looks as though he is smiling He loves to get hugs and we love go give them. He will even shake a paw for a treat.
Gunner is not without his adventurous side. It has been told to us by the Hohman’s that Gunner put some firemen through quite the “ice training” rescue. They called the fire department and firemen came and rescued Gunner off the ice and back to land safely. I guess Gunner though the firemen hadn’t had enough training or he hadn’t had enough adventure, whatever the reason, Gunner did it AGAIN and had to be rescued AGAIN.
Gunner is a sweet, gentle boy. The best. We all love him so much. Gunner has left his paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why he is our “Dog of the Month” for May.

-Update-
It was a very, very sad day when we were given the news that Gunner was very sick. It had been discovered that Gunner had Cushing’s Disease. It was inoperable and ultimately fatal. Gunner’s last visit to day care was on April 21, 2006. Gunner passed away on May 18, 2006. We all feel blessed that we were given the gift of getting to know Gunner and having his friendship. We will always treasure the memories and be thankful for the time we had with him. He may be gone physically, but he will never be forgotten. His spirit is and always will be with us. Gunner was our very first “Dog of the Month.” We miss you, friend. Until we meet again.
