Howl-a-Day Inn.com Dog of the Month > June 2008

Princess

Princess is a 4 year old German shepherd mix. Her proud parent is Nancy Kissick. Princess’s previous owner surrendered her to the Humane Society at the age of two. Nancy adopted Princess from the Humane Society. She is a dog that loves to walk and so does Nancy so it was the perfect match. The Humane Society gave Princess her name. Nancy couldn’t think of another name that seemed to fit her since she acts like a Princess and loves to be treated like one.

Nancy had some misfortune in her life and was staying at Hope House for a time. Hope House doesn’t allow pets so during that time Princess was fostered for 9 months by Tina Beall, a previous employee of Howl-a-Day Inn. With Aunt Cindy’s help, food donated by other friends and LOTS of TLC, Princess was OK. But, Princess was happiest when her mom came to visit her at day care and would take her for car rides and for walks. Princess really loves her mom.

Princess became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on May 10, 2006. She usually spends two or three days a week with us. Princess is a real sweetie and a very pretty girl. When she comes into day care she has to give all of us hugs and kisses before she goes to see her furry friends. It is not that she doesn’t love all of her furry friends, but Princess is more of a “people” dog. She likes to mingle with all her friends but her best friend is Shister. She likes to play with Shister’s sister, Lucy Lu and also Sammy boy.

Princess is quite the jumper. I remember the first day she came to day care. Cindy and I were on the floor watching all the dogs and Princess was standing by the front gated fence. From a stand still she jumped straight up about twelve inches from the top of the fence. Cindy and I looked at each other like “did you see what I saw?” We were pretty amazed.

Nancy tells us that Princess likes to chase squirrels and rabbits. Nancy hides her squeaky toy squirrel and she loves to find it and shake it around. Just recently, Princess decided her and Aunt Cindy needed some adventure in their lives. Cindy was keeping Princess overnight and when she was walking her to the car, Princess’s collar broke, she saw a fox and decided she needed to chase it. That ended up to be about a two hour adventure. I’m thinking Princess had a lot more fun than Aunt Cindy did.

Nancy also tells us that if she is home and watching TV, Princess will bark at her constantly until Nancy shuts the TV off and takes her for a walk. Nancy says that Cindy and day care have been the best thing in her and Princess’s life. Princess has calmed down and listens so well because of what she has learned at day care.

Like most stories involving a princess, this one has a happy ending too. Nancy was able to get her own home and now Princess and Nancy have each other and for Princess that is the perfect place to be. Princess is a very special girl and if Princess is happy then we are all happy. She has left her paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why she is our “Dog of the Month” for June. WE LOVE YOU Princess!
