Pappini
Pappini is a three year old Italian Greyhound. Her proud parents are Susan and Bill Hollington. The Hollingtons had never seen an Italian Greyhound. They saw a sign at All About Puppies in Clearwater, Florida. They went in and saw a tiny, sick puppy. Kennel cough and high fever. They told the managers that the little puppy was sick; she agreed and sold them the puppy, NO discount. So that day Pappini’s life changed for the better and she was rescued by her forever family.
Miss Pappini’s full name is Madame Lavina Pappini and has an interesting story behind the name. In 1968, Susan and Bill had a Humanities of Art Professor at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. She was a very strong, wonderful woman and very, very Italian. She was a visiting professor and lived in Italy. During World War 2, she had done a huge sculpture of the dictator Mussolini.

Pappini became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on July 17, 2006. When Pappini comes to visit, she brings along her little brother Giovanni to play. There is usually a lot of drama associated with Pappini. She can’t help it; it’s NOT easy being a “diva”. Pappini loves to pick and play with furry friends, Roxie Dillon and Katie Huppman. She absolutely loves Zoe Cramer.
Pappini LOVES to run fast and get other furry friends to chase her. Before you know it, four or five “pals” are chasing her. They finally catch up to her and then she stops and they stop and they all stand there staring at her. They are NOT even close to her, maybe three feet away. Pappini starts screaming. The first few times it gives your heart a rush, but then you get used to her doing it. You realize it is just Pappini, “Miss Drama Queen” in action.

At home Pappini loves to burrow under the covers in bed. If she wants to be petted, she uses her paw to put your hand on her. One of my very favorite memories is Pappini laying in the summer sun with her brother Rebel, who passed away on May 1, 2008. He was the sweetest boy and we still miss him very, very much. Susan says with Rebel, Pappini was his shadow and she thinks that is why she likes the big dogs. Pappini always thought Rebel was her “parent”.
We all love Pappini. She’s a very special little girl with her own unique personality. She has left her tiny paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why she is our “Dog of the Month” for January.
Pappini wishes everyone a Happy New Year.

Note:
The horror in Pappini’s story is puppies that come from pet stores are usually puppies from puppy mills. We need to end the pain where it starts - at the mills. Once they are in pet stores, they are orphans in need of a home. It is important not to make an impulsive decision to buy a puppy at a pet store simply because the puppy is cute and six months later the novelty wears off and it is dropped off at a humane society. PLEASE be a responsible person and only adopt a puppy or dog if you plan on giving it a FOREVER home. Pappini is one of the fortunate ones, she adopted great parents. Not all puppies from puppy mills are so lucky. PLEASE check out puppymills.com or hsus.org to see what you can do to help put a STOP to puppy mills.
