Chavez

Chavez is a 2 year old Bull Terrier. His proud parents are Barb and Allen Peterson. The Peterson's did their homework like a responsible pet owner should. They researched breed characteristics and breeder reputation. They saw a picture of Chavez on the internet and fell in love with him. He was flown from Oklahoma to Columbus, OH where Chavez met his forever family for the first time. I am sure it was love at first sight for little Chavez too.

The Peterson's sons named him Chavez (pronounced Cha-vay) after their favorite fictional "tough guy" character Domingo "Ding" Chavez from many Tom Clancy novels. We here at day care think he has the persona of "The Fonz" from TV show "Happy Days." The Fonz had a tough guy image but inside he was a real sweet guy, like Chavez. I can envision Chavez in a leather jacket, riding off on his motorcycle, giving me a "paws up!" Sweet!

Chavez became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on September 28, 2006. He comes to visit us twice a week. We absolutely love Chavez. He is very special to us not only because he is such a sweet guy and has personality plus but he is our only Bull Terrier which makes him a celebrity of sorts. For most of us, we have only seen famous Bull Terrier's on TV. For example the Bug Light spokes dog "Spuds McKenzie" and General George Patton's Bull Terrier "Willie." As a result, Chavez gets a lot of extra attention from other parents that bring their furry kids for day care.

The best way to describe Chavez's personality would be to say he is a "clown in a dog suit." He has a lot of furry friends and when he first arrives he is usually up for whoever wants to play. He gets spurts of energy sometimes where he will play and run for about five minutes then he's ready for a nap. Mostly he just hangs out, plays, naps, hangs out, plays and naps and naps some more. He loves to cuddle with other furry friends. When he was a puppy, his best buddies were Fritz Smith, a Doberman puppy and Teddy Bear Max Miarer, a Newfoundland mix.

When Chavez was a puppy his nose was pink and he looked like a pig, in a good way, of course. We nicknamed him "Piggy-Pie." We noticed it made him happy when we called him that, so we made it his official nickname. When you call him Piggy-Pie, he will come running, smiling, and wagging his tail. He loves to howl and play the choir director and have all his furry friends join in a chorus of "Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay." In the summer, he loves the pool and to be squirted with the hose. He jumps up and bites the water. Just don't leave the hose in the pool unattended or you will find Chavez in the pool with the hose in his mouth shaking it and the hose WILL have holes in it. OOPS!

The Peterson's tell us that Chavez has a basket of toys and shoes that are HIS – he touches nothing else in the house Even a dirty cup by the stairs waiting to be brought down to the kitchen is left untouched! Good Boy Chavez! He buries bones in the back yard and loves to chase golf balls. Playing with the hose is his favorite sport. In the morning he is always under somebody's covers in bed. We could all take a lesson from Chavez – he has a great attitude 24/7 "Don't worry. Be Happy."

We try not to pick favorites at day care because we love ALL our furry friends. Even if you try to make a list of your favorites you would end up with a list thirty dogs long anyways. But Chavez is definitely one of our favorites and an absolute perfect choice to be our Valentine Boy. We love you Chavez. You have left your paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why you are our "Dog of the Month" for February.
