Penelope

Penelope Sue is a 4 yr. old Bassett Hound. Her proud parents are Rachael and Eric Helms. The Helms located Penelope on Petfinder.com. She was at a shelter near Columbus, OH. The pictures of Penelope online didn’t prepare Rachael and Eric for what they saw when they met her. She came walking up a long driveway with her head hung low. She was so skinny. She had spent two to three months in an animal hospital with pneumonia and bad kennel cough. Poor Penelope.

Once Rachael and Eric got Penelope to look at them with THOSE droopy eyes, there was no way they were leaving without her. So Penelope’s life definitely changed for the better that day when she was blessed with her forever home. The shelter had named her Andy Sue. The Helms didn’t think the name quite fit her but they wanted to keep part of it so they named her Penelope Sue. That is the pawfect name for her. She is definitely a Penelope! A BIG name for a BIG personality – sassy but sweet.

Penelope became a guest at day care and part of OUR family on June 6, 2007. She comes to visit us once or twice a week and brings along her sister, Charlotte, also a Bassett Hound. They are absolutely adorable together. Sisters united and forever friends! Penelope is a very happy girl even though it’s hard to tell because she always looks sooo sad. Penelope doesn’t really have any ‘best’ friends. She likes to watch her furry friends play and run along with them and bark. Usually when she plays, it is with Charlotte. They are never far apart.

Rachael and Eric tell us that Penelope has a very strong personality. She was an “only child” for almost a year before sister Charlotte was adopted. She was used to having the run of the house and ALL the attention. Penelope finds a very visible corner and stands there and pouts. Penelope and Charlotte get along great but Penelope still has to remind Charlotte who “the boss” is.

Penelope loves Charlotte and will cuddle up with her on the couch or bed when mom and dad aren't in the room. As soon as Penelope sees mom and dad she turns into the 'tough girl' and growls at Charlotte. The games they play! We love Penelope. Who couldn't love that sweet sad face. We love you too Charlotte, just don't tell Penelope. Penelope Sue has left her paw prints on our hearts forever and that is why she is our "Dog of the Month" for April..

Penelope is wishing everyone a basketful of good wishes for a Happy Easter. Woof!
