The first year in your baby's life
by Aunt Kathy Iliff

6 Months to 14 Months/Second Fear Impact Period

This period can actually occur one or more times before the dog matures, so this is also commonly known as the "Fear of New Situations Period."

Your puppy is now an adolescent dog and with that you will see some changes in your puppy's behavior. Once outgoing with new people, he may now be shy. Once brave in new situations, he may now be frightened.

If your puppy is showing signs of reluctance, intimidation, or fear, don't encourage him to confront a situation. Additionally, don't try to "baby" your puppy by comforting him or her with love pats and soothing words.

Forcing the dog to confront a fear will make him even more frightful and your puppy will find your soothing as a reward. Instead, just be patient. Allow the dog the space to gain the confidence himself. To held build his confidence, continue obedience training.

We might leave it there for now.

I hope that made sense and provided some more insight in to your darling pooch.
